Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. I'm kinda liking this cold, gray weather. I like to sleep with the window over our bed open so my pillow gets nice and cold. Nothing better than turning your pillow over in the middle of the night and having the new side be all smooth and cold....
2. Listening to Rod Picott this morning I noticed that one line has the word 'prick' in it....maybe that's where Owen got it. At least he knows the proper usage now. In other news he told me that I owe the swear jar $2 and Ernie owes it $5. Sigh.
3. Welcome to world Evaline Violet Campbell! I bet she's gorgeous...and as Ernie said, you just know she's going to be a wonderfully droll little baby!
4. I love allium.
5. The boys got their Batman lego in the mail yesterday. These were the presents they got for getting good grades. What a scam they have going. I guess I made the mistake of doing this last year. The thing is they always get good grades and when I pointed out that I didn't even have their grades yet they countered with 'yeah, but you know we'll get good grades.....' Of course I'm weak....but they were SO happy yesterday....they practically levitated around the house. And who know....next year is middle school for Leo....we may not be able to continue taking good grades for granted....and mind you I'm not bragging...we've got plenty of other issues....
6. Ernie's black hollyhocks....
7. The only thing that doesn't seem to have germinated well in the garden (well apart from my Empress of India nasturtiums in the windowbox DAMN IT) is the lacinato kale. Of course that's the one vegetable I wanted the most and the only seeds I didn't get locally. Hmph.
8. THREE DAY WEEKEND.
9. I'm a little sick to my stomach about the whole health insurance issue now that it's definite that we have to switch. If we switch to the HMO there are exactly two oncologists listed...at Christie. How are those two oncologists going to....oh never mind. I guess we have to switch to the OAPs. Ernie's care definitely has to come before financial worries. It does look as though the Carle oncologists are in Tier Two of the OAPs which means we'd pay 10%. Gulp. But at least that's not 20%.... I had Ernie call Carle to get a history of all his charges so we can try to prepare for what we will actually be paying out, at least in the near future. And if we go into debt for cancer treatment....well, it's a hell of a cause, huh? Does anyone have any experience or recommendations between the two OAPs? Healthlink or Personal Care? Do I just go by which website I like the best? I tried looking a bit for reviews or ratings but couldn't come up with anything.... If you have any thoughts or insight please let me know!
10. See #8!!!
11. And since Eric Brace, Peter Cooper et al. have me in a Tom T. Hall kinda mood here's a Friday morning treat:
