Wings and Ants and Shotgun Songs
Our house has been invaded by ants.
AND we have more tomato corpses.
Other than that....things are o.k.
Oh, well except for the fact that the State ruled against Health Alliance in the insurance debacle. That makes me sick to my stomach but I'm trying not to think about it.....trying, trying, trying....
Last night when I was going to bed I told Ernie I felt sort of guilty because I'd kinda ignored my children the whole evening. He looked at me and said, "Cynthia....they ignore us ALL the time." Yeah, o.k. I guess. Sometimes it's nice to be a little selfish.
The power went out at work so I left a half hour early--woo-hooo! Ernie snuck me to Fries and Peanuts for a quick drink then we drove home with old Dandy Warhols playing really loudly. Got home to barbecue smoking on the grill AND we got to see David Olney on Ustream AND we got to see Eric Brace, Peter Cooper AND Jon Byrd on Stageit.com. AND I watched a somewhat dull American Idol AND I went to bed and read AND laid there listening to music in the dark.
Except for the ignoring-my-kids part (oh, and we did feed....we didn't ignore them completely) it was a delightful evening.
Since I got my kindle I've been reading a lot more at night when I go to bed. I bought a little ipod dock for my bedside table with some kind of credit card points we had so now I can have music as well. Sometimes Owen comes in for a song or two. Last night he requested Rod Picott's 'shotgun son' so I obliged and we laid there listening to it together.
It seems as though it's been a long, long time that I've listened to music in the dark trying to fall asleep. It brings back whispy little memories of being in junior high and high school. I had my sister Judi's old turntable and it fit into the bottom of my bedside table. I remember listening to that triple live Wings album.... and the first Bad Company album (also a hand me down from Judi).
Amazing what sounds and scents can bring back to you.
