Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. I love the cicadas and the kids in this David Olney video. Right around 2:40 he pins the kids with a stare...amuses me every time I watch it....brilliant...just brilliant.....
2. Owen listened to the Eric Brace/Peter Cooper Stageit show with us last night and was entranced. He contributed to the chat a bit and drew a picture that he asked me to send to Eric and Peter. He wrote reminder notes for me, converted his old math folder to "Mommy's folder" and put the drawing inside on one side and on the other side, a piece of paper with the message "treat this well Mommy. Sincerely, Owen." And he drew a little heart. Here is his drawing which I have obediently sent off to Eric and Peter. It says Kid & guitar=happy strumming=great music like yours. He explained to me that those are books (one on Fender guitars) on a table below the guitar. Eric sent a nice email back and Owen was tickled. I love kind men.....and sweet boys.....
3. These radish thinnings were so gorgeous and tasted even better. They were so tender and young that there was just a hint of that radish spiciness.
4. The boys planned an end of the school year family movie night last night. We ordered pizza and watched some Batman movie with Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman that went on and on and on FOREVER but despite that it is delightful to spend time with my sweet peas.
5. Once again we have no electricity in our bedroom. I still feel funny when I type that. It sounds too much like an analogy..... Anyway, remember last time? By the time the electrician got there it was back on so he spent less than five minutes wiggling a breaker and saying maybe it hadn't been pushed all the way or something like that. We still need to pay that $89 bill. Sigh. So the other night I went up to bed....no power. By the grace of God the ceiling fan still works so I have a nice little flashlight set up so I can read my kindle and I listen to music via my ipod touch's tinny little speakers. It's kinda nice actually....make it seem more atmospheric.... I suppose we need to look into this again however. Sigh.
6. Yesterday I looked up a recipe that I'd posted on my blog a couple of years ago and got caught up reading some old entries. Sometimes I can't believe it's the same life. I get to go see a friend and her new baby tonight and I was thinking of her....remembering that wet, messy, tearful (for me anyway) blur that is the first few weeks of a new baby...and that feeling that life would be that way forever. And I remember when we got Leo on a sleep schedule and being Leo he decided he would go to sleep every night at 6:30 p.m. and we were just kind of..."uh...o.k. Leo." I remember thinking hopelessly that I would never be out after dark again. And I remember those days and nights taking care of Judi as she was dying....and feeling like it would never end....and the time watching my father become more and more confused and the constant calls from my mother during the night....all the trips to the hospital and the emergency room....those times seemed as though they would never end...and yet here I am....grumbling about needing a flashlight for my kindle and life is o.k. Huh. Sometimes it's good to look back.
7. Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully we will have Rod Picott and Amanda Shires for a house concert at some point. Cross your fingers we can figure out a date.
8. O.k.....my camera seems to have developed a thing where I end up with grey blotches on my pictures. After perusing the internet it appears I have dust on my sensor. That kinda sounds like an analogy too. Anyway....I found this video that tells you how to fix it....and I looked at it and made Ernie look at it and he snorted. Yes, he snorted and said something along the lines of "no f'ing way." Any ideas?
here's a picture with blotches:
