A Quiet Summer Weekend

It was a quiet weekend....just lots of enjoying being at home.  Friday I still felt a little shaky from this stupid bug I've had.  Ernie took me to lunch but then I went home and napped for much of the afternoon.  Each day I am feeling better though.  Saturday we hit the farmers' market and then Prairie Gardens to try to find plants to replant my dead window box.  It's not as pretty as it was before but it's back in place.  That evening there were actually a couple of things I wanted to go to downtown (the Smile Politely party even though I barely qualify as a writer given that we've written so little....and the Nature's Table reunion/The Last Straw at the Highdive) but we'd had a major shakedown/takedown event with the boys and they were in disgrace and it just didn't feel right to go out and leave them.  So we curled up together with our remorseful boys and watched a Harry Potter movie.  Well, of course I went up early to read in bed.  Thinking about it, I realize that I am just like my grandfather who no matter how involved he was in a movie always headed up to bed when he hit a certain time.  Huh.  And I didn't think there was all that much Nelson in me...

Sunday saw Ernie making his homemade biscuits. He also attempted to dig out our False Indigo but its roots appear to have been cemented into the ground.  I went out periodically but man....it's just not pleasant out there so I gave in and just reveled in being inside, at home.  We watched some bad cooking reality shows with the boys and later Owen made incredible grilled super-thin pork chops from Triple S.  They were amazingly good and he was quite pleased with himself.  I cooked a big batch of angel hair pasta and dressed it with 1/3 cup each of soy, honey and sesame oil as well as a tablespoon of red pepper flakes.  Pretty great (although a little heavy on the pepper flakes) and with cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden it was a delightful meal.  Now I just don't understand how it can be Monday morning and time to head to work soon.

School and the end of summer is looming now.  We register Owen for school this week....and Leo not long after.  My baby...in MIDDLE school.  Geesh.  Can I just say I'm not ready for the pace of life to change?  Right now mornings are quiet and relatively peaceful....other than me begging Ernie to let me sleep ten more minutes....  I guess we just need to dig in and enjoy the end of summer.....
