Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. Parent Teacher conferences last night. I must admit I enjoy them---it always makes me happy to be talking about my babies. I LOVE that Leo's math teacher thinks he's really funny. That made me very, very happy. Both of them are doing great and they both seem to be pretty happy at school and with their teachers---not that they'd admit that but compared to other years there's a real difference. They've got some great teachers---I am so thankful.
Waiting for our turn:
2. I walked out of the media room last night only to see Owen curled up into a little ball in a chair in the living room, the laptop right in front of his face, bobbing that little blonde head in time to XTC. He is in a major XTC phase. When he plays video games, he brings the laptop in and sets it next to him so he can listen to XTC at the same time. And he talks about the songs thoughtfully...."when this song starts out it sounds as though it might be a sad song but then it gets really happy" and "some of their songs sound like the Beatles in parts." Try to picture Ernie and Owen driving together, listening to Life Begins at the Hop and doing all the claps and whoo-ooo-oooo's in unison.....
3. There are a couple of things I want to do this weekend, one tonight, one Sunday night...and of course tomorrow is our anniversary...but I'm not sure what the weekend holds. It has felt like a very long week for some reason. We need to paint our media room...and rearrange...which means moving thousands of cds but mostly I want to drive out in the country or go to Allerton and cook a good dinner and just hang out with my guys. Sometimes a quiet weekend is what's needed.
4. Of course this weekend will also see the final preparation for Owen's Halloween costume. He is going as Link from the Legend of Zelda. We've got the hat, the sword, the shield and a belt. We have a green...mmmmm....tunic I guess, but he's concerned that it's not the exact same green as the hat. We still need boots. He said he's not doing the pointed ears---that would be too obvious. I guess he's going as a subtle Link.... Leo is not trick-or-treating...he will be giving candy out and supervising the pumpkins.
5. Kale from the garden for dinner the other night---complete with raindrops still on it.
6. Fall berries....I wish they were in my yard.... We bought a beautyberry bush last fall and then killed it by forgetting to plant it. Geesh.
