Purses and Painters

The last day or so has kind of been a comedy of errors.  I went to work yesterday only to be kicked out of my office by  painters.  Now, THAT was delightful---an unexpected day off!  I walked out to the parking lot to go to my car....looked for my car....and remembered that Ernie dropped me off.  Luckily he wasn't in the middle of anything when I called to beg for a ride home as I didn't even have money for the bus.  Then I ran into a friend who was on a run so we chatted until Ernie got there.

We decided to run some errands and headed over to the Verizon store so we could add the boys' phones to our family account.  TracFone and I just did NOT get along.  As we were standing there waiting Ernie's phone rang and it was Owen's school saying he was was feeling very sick.  Sigh.  We headed home and got him settled.  Later Leo came home looking suspiciously glassy eyed and mopey.  Yup, he's sick too.

Ernie and I were attending the 40N ACE awards at the Canopy Club that night....partly because our beloved Mark Rubel was an award winner and also because my former boss won the Lifetime Achievement Award.  Normally I avoid carrying a purse as often as possible when I go out in evening but I had to have my phone because there was a chance someone was going to call me and tell me that I needed to be the one to accept the award.  So I figured I could handle being grown up and keeping track of my purse.

By the way----the evening was lovely----40N did a great job and it made me think about other people that deserve to be nominated.

Anyway...it went a little later than we had expected so we were speeding home to our sickish boys when Ernie's phone rang.  It was my sister Debbie and as we were talking (and almost home) she mentioned she had tried to call my phone first.  I blithely said, "oh, I have my phone with me," only to look down at my feet and see no red purse.  So then my poor sister listened to me swear up and down.  We decided that Ernie would drop me off and he would hurtle back to the Canopy Club for my purse.  The boys were already getting into bed so I had to pound on the door as I didn't have my keys.  I was talking away to Debbie the whole time and eventually I heard weird beepings and it occurred to me that maybe Ernie was trying to call me.  I still don't have the hang of my iPhone as much as I love it.....  So I hung up and sure enough there were two voicemails kindly telling me they had my purse.  So I'm trying to call them back and thoroughly confused as to why I'm trying to call myself.  I looked at Owen and said, "why do I have Daddy's phone?"  He wearily reminded me that I'd been talking to Aunt Debbie on it when I came in. Total discombobulation on my end.... GEESH. Eventually Ernie arrived home triumphantly with my purse.  MANY thanks to Janet and Shawna and I was greatly comforted by the fact that they got confused by phone too!

I woke up in the night with a wickedly sore throat but still thought I'd be o.k.  By morning I had a fever as well damn it.  I pulled up my work schedule and figured it was o.k. to stay home.  I emailed my boss to let her know and she asked me if I had let the painters in.  ARGH.  It's Wednesday....I was supposed to let the painters in at work at 7:00 a.m.  I called the company and told them I'd be there asap.  I pulled a jacket on over what I'd slept in and Ernie drove me over.  I apologized profusely...they were kind.  Then I realized I needed to go get shoe covers from the medical supply place.  I'd planned to do it yesterday but forgot in the rush of sick boys.  Ernie couldn't do it for me because I needed to use my p-card.  So he drove me over there and of course they didn't open for half an hour.  UGH.  So we sat there until we could go in....bought the shoe covers....Ernie delivered them and I went back home and collapsed into bed.  I just woke up and I don't feel as feverish so perhaps I'm on the mend.  The boys seem better today as well....so cross your fingers for all of us.  And next time you see me?  Ask me if I know where my purse is....
