Surviving Saturday and Looking Forward to Rod Picott and Amanda Shires
Good God. Ernie and the boys just left to go buy a birthday present and go to the library. It took them about a half hour to get out the door. Leo didn't want to wear his new shoes, he wanted to wear his old shoes that his toes stick out of. He likes them that way. Fine. So we found the old shoes. Owen got distracted washing his hands when he started filling an empty little Cheetos bag with soapy water. Ernie and Leo yelled at Owen to hurry up. Eventually they all headed to the door but then Owen stopped and asked if he could bring an XTC cd to play. Leo threw his hands in the air and yelled, "NO, they're TERRIBLE." Owen started sniffing and I started reprimanding Leo. Owen kicked the front door and burst into tears crying, "Leo disrespects everything I like and it hurts my feelings." I said, "no KICKING Owen....and I'm trying to talk to your brother." I glared at Leo and he sighed heavily before saying to Owen, "I'm sorry man, I just don't like your music." I told Leo it was fine to say HE didn't like things but not to yell at others that they are terrible. Owen continued to cry over his beloved XTC. Ernie said, "Owen, o.k., we won't listen to music while we go to get these things but when we go to your guitar lesson we'll play XTC." Owen nodded. Ernie headed out, Leo behind him, Owen bringing up the rear as he sniffed.
Now one of the cats is making that howl they do before vomiting.
Good God.
It's ALL o.k. though because I'm listening to Jason and the Scorchers and its a gorgeous day outside. Ernie and I bought a ton of vegetables (purple broccoli that is technically cauliflower, carrots, green beans, onions, honey, radishes just because they were so freaking beautiful, a big old cabbage, red potatoes, eggplant and zucchini.
Oh, and spinach too.
Oh, and red and orange peppers too.
Much of it is for next Friday's party with Amanda Shires and Rod Picott. I'm going to make a big batch of moussaka and another of briam (kind of a Greek ratatouille). The moussaka will be layers of potatoes, eggplant, lamb in a red sauce with currants and a bechemal sauce over the whole thing. The briam will have tons of vegetables, garlic and olive oil so it will be vegan.
For the potluck, anything and everything is welcome. You don't need to bring something (or just bring some wine or beer or whatever) to partake. If you want to bring something however suggestions would be a side dish of rice/pilaf/green salad or whatever else sounds good---just because I'm doing Greek doesn't mean anything else needs to be. How about the taco ring Shelly???? Also appetizers/dips/olives/breads....and DESSERT!
I can't wait.
Please remember----we find it's MUCH easier on us if you please can pay ahead of time. Paypal (link on the top right of this page) or drop cash/checks off...whatever. Also....PLEASE let anyone you think might like this know about it----if you go to the facebook page you can invite people that way. We really, REALLY want a good crowd for them---I always worry we won't have enough people to make it worth their while so please don't hesitate to come yourself or invite others. Just let us know you're coming (or come last minute of course)....don't worry if you haven't met us yet, o.k?
