Different Kinds of Loss

Yet again a weekend whizzed past me.  I was broken hearted that Eric Brace and Peter Cooper didn't win the Grammy yesterday.  Ernie and I sat and watched the pre-telecast awards on our NEW iMac (thank you tax refund) hooting and hollering getting generally giggly until their category was up.  And as we watched about 40 people go up on stage to collect the Grammy that wasn't going to our guys we turned it off in disgust.  Here's a great write up from Eric:  www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/grammy-nominee-dreams-of-a-win/2012/02/12/

This morning I woke up thinking about  the lost Grammy but then I heard news about a friend---- a friend whose adult daughter died unexpectedly---leaving a toddler behind as well.  And it put all thought of loss of awards into perspective.  Last week I had bad news about a friend and then this.  It makes me clutch my beautiful boys even closer and appreciate our life together.....the good, the bad and the messy....

Ernie and I ordered flowers from Fleurish to be sent to a couple of different friends that are going through hard times.  This is of course why we will never have any money but it felt good to do and while we were there ordering them Ernie bought me a bunch of the most fragrant Dutch hyacinths you can imagine.  So we've sworn off Valentine's Day---the flowers we sent to our friends will be our presents to one another.

Here's Owen practising, in our disaster of a living room, for the Dr. Howard talent show.  I love that sometimes he sings Whole Wide World straight---in his voice---and then other times he uses Wreckless Eric's accent.  Cracks me up.  We'll see which one he uses at the talent show.....
