Faith.

Driving this morning we saw a man dressed as Christ dragging a huge cross down the street.  He had a crown of thorns, his robe had blood marks and the huge cross luckily had a small wheel at the base to help him drag it through the streets.

There was a time when I would have rolled my eyes at this.  Now when I see expressions of faith like that I merely feel quiet envy.  I wish I had the ability to have that kind of faith.  I remember once my sister Debbie saying that my Mom had said something similar to her (I am very much my mother's daughter) and Debbie said to me, and I'm paraphrasing of course so forgive me if I'm wrong Debbie---"but it's so simple, you just have to believe."  And she does, and it gives her life purpose and strengthens her and I see it and admire it. My mom and me? Well...not so easy for us.

Here is David Olney doing his classic song, Jerusalem Tomorrow.  I remember hearing this for the first time and the hit in your gut when you hear that last line.

I wholeheartedly recommend The Stone to everyone, whether you are a believer or not.  Please share this with others that would appreciate it.  A recent quote:

David Olney, a sophisticated storyteller who can stand shoulder to shoulder with James McMurtry, uses his narrative talent to full effect here. Retelling the Christian Easter story in a way which is engaging and surprising is an incredible feat of songwriting. Using 21st-century language to tell a 1st-century story, on ‘Brains,’ is imaginative and is just one of the rhetorical devices used. Because of its intelligence, The Stone is equally captivating to listeners of different faiths, or even the non-religious; it is simply wonderful storytelling. (Liv Carter/Urban Country News)

The cover of the CD is taken from an icon painted by David's sister, Debby Atwell.  Gorgeous.
