Just a Little Bit More Loss for Owen

Did you SEE the lavendar sky last night? It was amazing. Ernie and Owen and I went outside and wandered around the wet yard. Ernie and I talked about what plants to move where. Poor Owen was in tears over losing part of the yard. I tried to comfort him. I talked to him about how nice it was that some of our plants would go to friends and how nice the yard will be. It must seem unfathomable to him though. We talked about the fact that someone who could get so angry at people he doesn't really know must not be that happy deep inside. He nodded and sniffed a little. I hugged him and told him that nobody could take the rest of the yard, that it is legally ours. He hugged me back and seemed to feel better. Then Ernie started talking about how since the neighbor seems to like bare yards and gravel that he'll probably cut down the two trees that will be left. Good God I glared at him as hard as I fucking could to no avail. Geesh. Poor Owen burst into tears. Ay yi  yi.

I can tell that it feels like such a loss to him and I HATE that he feels the sting of loss again. We talked about where we'll move Aunt Judi's tree....maybe next to Grandpa's tree. Then he asked where Grandma's tree was and I pointed it out and we giggled over how much bigger it is than any of the others. That seemed to cheer him up a bit.

School starts next week too.

Life can be damn confusing for ten year olds.
