Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. Glorious evening last night celebrating my friend Teri's birthday. She and Brian have the most comfortable room....you know how some rooms just feel good? My favorite chair is the arm chair....anyway....there were wonderful treats to nibble (good lord you put ANYTHING in puff pastry and I love it), wine, music ranging from Chet Atkins to Jason and the Scorchers (with a little Herb Alpert thrown in) and then it ended with mmmm....let's see....I'm thinking it was three/sevenths maybe of the Duke of Uke doing a few songs. We reluctantly dragged ourselves home because Owen had called and said he really wanted to see us before he fell asleep. He said, "I really like Teri Mom....but I think she'd understand." So we went home and found Leo curled up reading in his bunk and Owen up above him with the blankets over his face almost asleep. He murmered, "I'm too sleepy to move my head but you can kiss my hand" and stuck his hand out in my general direction. So I kissed it and I gotta say...when you get right down to it....it really was worth coming home early for.
2. Brussels sprouts with chickpeas in a sweet and spicy tomato sauce (I made tomato sauce for Owen and it turned out too sweet so I dumped in a ton of hot sauce). Not bad....
3. Judi gave the boys a wooden Advent calendar several years ago so we fill it every year. This year my brother in law Dennis very, VERY kindly gave the guys TWO Lego Advent calendars....one is Lego City and one is Star Wars. So Ernie and I were thinking we'd just do the Lego calendars this year. As Leo left for school this morning however he was musing to himself how great it would be to have THREE Advent calendars to open this year. Whoops. Since Judi gave the one to them I feel honor bound to fill it. Damn it. She's probably laughing right now....
4. This year's Christmas list from Owen.
5. Leo of course does not do Christmas lists but I believe the tops on his list would be computer and Lego. I protested to him that if we got him his own computer we would never see him and he earnestly responded, "no, I would have to come downstairs for food and water." I kid you not. What a comfort.
6. Friday! So it's a short day followed by lunch with my husband and the only other plans are buying our Christmas trees and talking to my beloved Diane Eyre about silver marks. And maybe we'll get out all the little Christmas trees for the mantel.....
7. Robbie Fulks with Audrey Auld tomorrow night at the Rosebowl.....and people I love are going to be there too.....sounds pretty good to me! Here's Audrey at our house earlier this year....
