No Floating Jesus But Otherwise Good

Thus far we've had a pretty great weekend. Still time to go downhill but I'm feeling pretty positive! Saturday morning we went to the farmers' market and brought home beautiful Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, parsley, onion, baby potatoes, sweet little fingerling sweet potatoes and seseme bagels before heading home to try to finish Christmas decorating.

We finally sorted through ALL the boxes of Christmas stuff we inherited from my parents and Judi. I thought we had already done that but when I opened what I thought was the last box of ornaments Ernie announced there were several more tubs and 5 boxes. I just stared at him. I guess the last few years we just get to a certain point and say that's it. A lot of the boxes were half empty or of the sort my father created when the Alzheimers was bad and he liked to sort things out.....say a box with a cat toy, some Christmas ornaments and an empty pill bottle all carefully packed together so it wasn't quite as overwhelming as I first thought.

Given that we had way too many ornaments for two trees we went ahead and donated some of the ones that weren't special to us. It felt good to have finally gone through everything. I had hoped to find Floating Jesus but no such luck. In grade school my sister Judi had made a homemade snow globe in school. You take a baby food jar, put clay on the inside of the lid, stick your little figures in the clay, fill the jar with water and glitter and lo and behold....your own snowglobe! Judi had little wooden figures of Jesus, Mary and Baby Jesus....unfortunately after awhile Baby Jesus came loose from the clay and happily floated at the top of the globe. Judi used to get really irritated when we made fun of Floating Jesus. My parents had him for years but who knows what happened to him. Unfortunately my grade school ornament  (the one I cried about when someone made fun of me for using gold and blue glitter instead of red and green...I remember it clearly) and Floating Jesus are lost to the ages but we found many other wonderful things!

Yesterday evening we went to a house concert. I had to laugh at myself because as much as I love having parties and telling everyone to PLEASE join us at our house concerts I still get nervous going to other people's houses (take this as a lesson that if you feel shy about coming to a house concert you should come anyway!!!). It was an absolutely LOVELY  show. Thanks to Amanda and Brent for sharing Daphne Willis with us all. We weren't really familiar with Daphne---just had listened to a song or two online but really loved her. Nothing better than live music in a beautiful old house! We stopped by Fries and Peanuts with our friends and ran into some other people we know (hey to all and hey to Doug and Melissa just on the off-off chance you see this). I really should go out after dark more often!!

Today, we're being lazy....and have scaled back our plans for the day. If only it would snow....Owen and I would be so happy.... My only plans are to perhaps clear off a few surfaces that have accumulated the standard stacks of junk, ask someone to build a fire in the fireplace and maybe even make my sister Judi's favorite Christmas cookie.
