Product and Artists on the Environment at the Y

Lord but yesterday was a long day. Perhaps it's my Lego weekend catching up with me...I don't know. A busy morning at work then off to a budget data mining workshop and then the Cancer Center. Sitting in meetings discussing instructional units, budgets, ratios and the like always make me feel like being a music fan dealing with record company speak. I remember in the 80's when we were working at Record Service and the record company guys would come in....a little slick and talking about moving product. And Ernie and Nick and Eileen and I would moan, "it's not PRODUCT...it's MUSIC." Ahhh...youth.  I mean I get it....moving the product allows for the artists who didn't sell so much...you know....the ones we liked. And the University sure as hell can't exist on the purity of academic mission so I get it....but still.....sometimes it just gets depressing.

And speaking of record company fetes....has the mystery every been solved of WHO stole the Bruce Springsteen promo the evening the record company rented a room at Jumer's and filled the tub with beer and champagne and played the new album for a bunch of record store employees? The employees were all 'too cool' to like Springsteen at the time.....I've always pegged Michael Pollock but I don't know if anyone has ever admitted to it. We of course just went, stood around, put a bunch of bottles of champagne under our jackets and left....no doubt thinking we were brilliant.

Ah.....youth....product....champagne.....

The infusion suite at the Cancer Center was hopping yesterday and someone had the temerity to take our favorite spot. We persevered....I got tea for Ernie and my magazine haul wasn't bad: two gardening magazines and a New Yorker. They had trouble getting the IV in but eventually.....

Note: I am relatively immune to road rage....but parking lot rage? I am there.

The bright spot in my day was meeting my beloved Ann for a drink at Fries and Peanuts. It's been eons since the two of us got together on our own...with no husbands, no children. It was lovely and it feels like we're both in pretty good places (despite product and infusions and eternal worries about children) so that was satisfying too.
