1960s Luncheons

When I went through my grandmother's recipe book recently I found myself enjoying looking at some of the menus she had written out for various events she helped organize----the Pioneers Luncheon in April of 1963 and the Neighbors Club in October of 1966.  There are just a few written in the back pages of her notebook. It's fun to see what they made....Shake and Bake chicken with roll sand salad and squash pie for dessert....now there's a New England touch for you....squash pie instead of pumpkin pie! And it was fun for me to read the names....I don't know that I ever met Grace Lincoln but I remember the name. Or was she the one that lived in an early Cape that my grandmother took me to see one time? And what is twinkle? Am I reading that correctly?

The Pioneers LUncheon was chicken pie, tossed salad, green peas, cranberry jelly and rolls....oh, and lemon sherbert and cookies for dessert. It was Mickey, Ada, Grace and Louise that supplied the cookies. Mickey Graham I think....why do I know that name? It must be somewhere in the recipe book....I have no idea why that pops into my head.

It's fun to ponder the serving notes and the dollar amounts....in that handwriting that is so familiar to me even though I couldn't have told you that a minute before I started looking at it....
