Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. Man my back and legs hurt Friday night as those storms rolled in. When the hell did I become a human barometer?
2. I shouldn't share this story because it will look like I'm a bad mother but what the hell. Friday night we were supposed to meet our friend Teri to hear the Curses and meet her two nephews who were in town. As per human barometer note above...I was not up for it but I felt bad that I missed it. On Saturday Ernie and Owen had the grill started and Owen was doing his famous chicken when she called and asked if we could meet them downtown for a quick drink. So we asked Owen if he could handle the chicken and we swept off. Of course it took longer than expected since half the streets were blocked off. He called and we told him we were on our way home. Then he called back a minute later and told us that we should come in the front door and go directly into the media room. When we got there he had our entire dinner ready and was waiting to eat. He had not only finished the chicken, he had looked up online how to cook corn on the cob and done that, he'd made a salad and dressed it and cut up some melon to go with it all. Oh, and he had a glass of red wine for Ernie waiting and a glass of white wine for me. I kid you not....this is what my 11 year old sweet pea made us for dinner. It was beyond fabulous....best dinner ever.
3. The other day Ernie was talking about Owen to me and he reminded me that he's eleven....and then he broke into a Spinal Tap accent and said, "He's eleven...not ten, he's eleven." God I love that man. So on Friday when it got rainy we watched Spinal Tap with Owen. Leo declined. I can't even begin to tell you what it is like to watch Spinal Tap with the two blondes.
4. A couple of weeks ago I had put my Sola Gratia herbs into some cidar vinegar. I've had the jar sitting in a sunny spot on the kitchen counter since then. Yesterday I needed a little gift because we were going to someone's house for a lunch so I found a small bottle and poured the vinegar through a coffee filter. It came out nice and clear and smells wonderful. I put a bit of fresh herbs in and I was ready to go. AND we didn't have to trudge out to the store to buy something which I really didn't feel like doing!
5. It's hard to believe it's July....I feel as though summer is already slipping away! Maine awaits though, Maine awaits....
