Random Notes from the Sandwich Life
1. I was touched by how many people asked me about how my sister Debbie was doing the other night at the house concert. Thank you so much. I also want to say another thanks for the incredibly kind donations people made. We are in the midst of paying some of those bills and I don't know how we would have managed without that. I never would have dreamed of asking for help and the fact that people would do that just blows me away. Not so articulate I know, but heartfelt. So thank you again, from Ernie and Debbie and me.
2. Yesterday while talking to Owen, somehow Miley Cyrus' VMA performance came up. I asked him if he'd seen it and he said, "ohhh, was she twerking?" I said yes and he replied, "Well, she just doesn't have some of the necessary requirements for that, I can tell you.
Good God.
We proceeded to have a good conversation about the whole thing...about the different ways men and women are treated for acting out sexually. That boy has a wonderfully interesting mind....and a kind spirit.
3. The day after the house concert, apart from cleaning up, we did precisely nothing....talked to the guys, went and had a drink at Fries and Peanuts, grilled some pork chops and ate leftover salads from the house concert, watched Breaking Bad and went to bed early. Lazy...but delightful.
4. I really should make people sign in and say what they are bringing. Whoever made the sesame noodles----Owen says they are better than mine. And that wonderfully fresh salsa was delicious too. Not too many leftovers though!
5. When a band comes to your house and plays great songs and then adds in three covers and they are by John Cale, 20/20 and Ian Hunter....well damn. As Ernie said, "it's so nice to be in a room with a bunch of people who know what you're talking about when you mention Chris Spedding. Comfort.
6. Why on earth does my kale look this way? I've been growing kale for 5 or 6 years and it's never been this bad. Something to with moths....is that what Kent told me too late on Saturday for me to remember properly???
7. I can always count on my zinnias though....
