Burns vs Soy Sauce and Butter

Yesterday wasn't one of my favorite days. I had a hell of a time with my back so I left work a bit early and downed a pain pill. That and stretching my back helped some but I hate the spaciness that comes with the pain pill. I had told Ernie that he and Owen had to cook dinner but I started to perk up a bit so I decided to. I had some boneless skinless chicken breasts which aren't my favorite thing to cook as it's so easy to dry them out. I decided to sear them in a skillet and then finish them in a 500 degree oven. They came out looking perfect, at just the right temperature. I sighed happily and grabbed the handle of the pan to move it over.

Yes, that's right...I grabbed the handle of the metal skillet that had just come from a 500 degree oven.

Volumes of expletives went flying out the kitchen window as I poured cold water on my hand. Damn it hurt. Owen comforted me and then I requested Leo's presence. He came downstairs and hugged me sweetly. I've got the best boys.

Eventually my bag of ice and I went into the media room and curled up on the couch as Ernie cut my food up so I could eat it with my left hand. It's really not all that bad today....I think I kept ice on it long enough to help...a few blisters and pretty sore but really...not the best way to spend an evening.

Although I WILL say that dinner turned out pretty darn good. We used the beautiful purple beans from Sola Gratia and they were delicious....Owen ate a handful before we could even cook them which always makes me happy...and then we watched turn green in the simmering water. I made some basmati rice and then a sauce of butter, soy sauce and garlic. How such a simple thing can taste so good is beyond me. It almost made up for the burn....
