33

I had to laugh that yesterday Owen reminded me that he hadn't written his thank you note to our friend Teri yet. Shouldn't the mother be the one reminding? Oh well.

Later we met Teri for a drink and delivered the two cards. We almost wept with laughter over the cards because they so perfectly represented the two guys.

Owen's started out, "I, Owen Blackwelder, would like to thank you for the gifts you bestowed upon me" and included illustration with 3D lettering. Leo's was in the tiniest of handwriting and quite succinct, but did tell her that he was enjoying the books "quite a bit."

Good God I love those boys.

And in other notes.....TODAY is the 33rd anniversary of the day I got tired of Ernie doing nothing more than nodding to me at Mabel's and Record Service, and walked up to him at an after hours party and said, "Don't you think it's time we knew each other's name?"

That was 1981 if you don't want to do the math. It's almost embarrassing but keep in mind I was a sweet, YOUNG thing. I had just gotten back from break. I had spent a slushy afternoon on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago, going to Wax Trax and various vintage clothing and military surplus stores with my friend Jeanne Robandt and was wearing the wonderful military jacket I had found. I felt invincible and like anything was possible, and I guess it was.

The jerk didn't get my phone number so I had to nonchalantly wander into Record Service the next week. He was quick to get it that time.
