Cookbook Giveaway to Join SOUP CON and RB Morris!

I'm doing another cookbook purge. I am keeping ones I like to read or have some kind of specialization that I refer to, but I'm trying to clear off some kitchen shelves in hopes of getting some of the crap off my counter. I realize that I now turn to Chowhound or other spots on the internet for recipe suggestions, so I am trying to be ruthless. There are some great ones here...just not ones I use anymore..... They will be given free to a good home on the night of our RB Morris house concert. First come, first serve, no holds..... I may even do a secondary purge so there may be more.

In other words.....on Saturday evening, February 1, you will:

1. hear great music and poetry by the inimitable RB Morris

2. support independent live music (all $ goes to RB)

3. brighten the hell out of this stretch of winter

4. enjoy 3 different incredible, warming and damn tasty soups made by Sue Davis in SOUP CON

5. have a chance to score a cookbook

6. make me happy

Now, in going through my cookbooks, I did come across a few that I could NOT part with....my various editions of the Joy of Cooking, my Cuban, Puerto Rican, some grilling books etc....AND.....the Betty Crocker's Cook Book for Boys and Girls.

Do you remember this? When I wrote about the Cooky Book someone, can't recall if it was V'ron or Sasha, mentioned this one and I had forgotten I had it. These illustrations bring back my childhood as viscerally as the Cooky Book does. I don't really remember cooking out of this one, as we did the Cooky Book...but I recall paging through it dreamily. For some reason my favorite picture was the straw pig in the Pigs in Blankets illustration. Once a hot dog girl, always a hot dog girl I guess.
