Fragments of Time in Howard Finster's Gardens
We didn't get out of Clemson as early as I would have liked but I decided it didn't matter....I didn't need to keep to some schedule I had in my head. Leo still felt pretty rotten so he slept as we meandered our way from South Carolina, through Atlanta, heading toward Chattanooga. Owen mostly sat with his headphones listening to music. Then he discovered that he could use bluetooth to play his music on the car's audio system....so we all listened to Daft Punk for quite awhile At one point he explained to us that what we were hearing was synthesizers. I love that boy.
We were heading toward Summerville, Georgia as I had never seen Howard Finster's Paradise Gardens. It was COLD when we got there....snowing for part of the time. Geesh. The boys were a bit puzzled by it all. Leo said, "When you said gardens, I was expecting plants." I said, "uh yeah, I guess I could have explained it better." He seemed to kind of like it although he wouldn't admit to it. When pressed he said it was weird. Well, I couldn't argue really. Owen pronounced it a little scary and I told him I could understand that. Then, as he was walking around the mosaic garden, he paused and said, "This is just like that Daft Punk song we were listening to, Fragments of Time....that's what's all around here." I told him he was right and I thought about how much I loved my beautiful boys.
I am so incredibly glad this site is being preserved.
We watched a wonderful interview of Finster on the Carson show in the visitor center. I had never seen it....it's definitely worth watching.
