Easter
A lovely Easter day was had. I woke up and thought, “what the hell was I thinking having people over for brunch?” Once I was up and showered and coffee-milked though, it all seemed doable. The meal was really simple. I liked the tart pomegranate molasses glaze I did on the ham, the roasted asparagus were well….roasted asparagus….you can’t really go wrong, and Teri and Brian brought a gorgeous bowl of fruit and some vanilla Greek yoghurt….as well as some Prosecco! My little hash brown nests retained their experimental status but I can see how they’d be better if I did things a bit differently in the future. I ate a leftover one last night and it tasted even better so they’re still a possible do again. Shortbread and sitting in the sun for dessert.
Our friends took off, Ernie did a crossword puzzle and I took a 20 minute nap. Then our friend Susan came over (with daughter in tow which delighted us) and took us to see a garden she works on---to give us ideas on working on our dead fence issue. I LOVE seeing other gardens and this one was incredible.
After that it was already dinner time already somehow….we let Owen nibble on leftovers while we sat in the sun. There was a horrifying snake episode complete with a dead snake on top of our fence but I’m trying not to think about it. Ernie eventually coaxed me back out into the yard. He crossworded, I read, and occasionally thought about where I want to plant things. We wandered inside, talked to my sister Debbie, watched a little tv and nibbled on leftover brunch. I took a piece of shortbread and a glass of wine upstairs and read in bed till I was too sleepy to anything but listen to music in the dark.
It was a nice day, as Tommy Womack would say.
