Sobriety, Texts and Teenagers

1. Congratulations to be my beloved sister Debbie. TWENTY-FIVE years sober today. She is very, VERY special.

I must admit I cropped out the glass of wine I'm holding in this picture....it seemed inappropriate....

2. After my last post, full of Owen's texts, Kirstin commented that at least we didn't get charged by the text. HA! We used to be charged that way because none of us texted much so it was cheaper to pay per text than to pay for unlimited. That is until Owen started his new texting habit and I found myself with an extra $95 on our phone bill one month. I couldn't even yell at Owen because I hadn't explained the costs to him. Needless to say we switched to unlimited texting.....

3. By the way, ARE YOU PEOPLE REALLY TELLING ME THAT YOU SURVIVED HAVING TEENAGERS? Because I don't fucking know how. I came home last night and tried to say hello to one of my children. It was met with utter impatience. Then I mentioned something he had to get done and I got an disgusted and angry, "I'll get it DONE." So then I, not so calmly, said, "GET OFF THAT GAME RIGHT NOW, YOU HAVE  NO RIGHT TO TALK TO ME LIKE THAT." Uh, yeah. It went from there. I stormed out to the yard to sit and pretend to read. Ernie came out and felt out my grumpiness before heading back in to remind someone that an apology would be a good idea. As he headed in I added, "And tell your other son it wouldn't KILL him to come downstairs and say hello to me when I got home." They both came outside, I got a pretty sincere apology and a nice, "How was your day Mom?" so things calmed down. We sat outside and talked for a long time about the end of the school year and random things. Eventually Owen went in and was back to being somewhat irritated but I was in a better frame of mind and was able to just roll my eyes. Leo looked at me and said, "Can you imagine what he's going to be like in High School? At least I'll just stay up in my room....." Out of the mouths of babes.....

4. How did I NOT know that Don Was is president of Blue Note? Huh.

5. My first nasturtium bloomed in my windowbox!

6. Leo's middle school graduation tomorrow. They take pictures on stage. We asked him if he could not look like it was a mug shot like he did last time he had a picture like that taken....

Then we attempted to have him pick out a shirt to wear. He was disgusted with our choices so Ernie is taking him to get a plain white dress shirt this afternoon. I'll give my baby credit....nothing better than a cute boy in a white shirt.

7. So.... Onward. Last day of middle school for Leo. Also last peanut butter til August as he will only eat it at school. My sweet pea.
