Restlessness and Good True Hearts
As nice as a quiet weekend is, and even when it's what you wanted and needed.....sometimes they leave me feeling restless afterward. My friend Teri and I always talk about how you have to 'mark' your weekend....just like a dog. Not that we pee on it mind you...but just the same, we need to lay claim to it by having some concrete event to hang our memories on. When we don't....we get restless, and we all know that isn't always a good thing. Sometimes being restless makes you look for trouble.
Speaking of being restless and looking for trouble....
Owen came downstairs late afternoon yesterday and he was just out of sorts and looking for an argument. He started back on how he wants the XBOX upstairs in his room. We have been through this already mind you. After a few fits and starts I told him that it seemed like he was just winding up to make us angry about something. He fussed and sputtered and complained a bit more. Then, finally, he said, "Sometimes when I'm really bored and don't know what to do, I think I create drama just so I won't be bored."
It was one of those times when I merely stare at him. Just when I want to kill him, he comes out with something so thoughfully perceptive. I told him he was right, and that a lot of people did that, but they weren't always aware of it. He nodded and just the fact that he had figured that out seemed to make him calmer, so he started chasing Ernie around the house and making him laugh so hard that we feared Ernie's head would pop off.
Just another night with Owen.
Leo, on the other hand, has moved a table up from the basement into his room and is now setting up some of his HO trains on it, most importantly the Big Boy of course. Somehow I have found myself scheduling a visit to the hobby shop in Bloomington this weekend. I figure we can stop into Asahal Gridley Antiques and maybe I can take them to the pizza place we liked. It does my heart good to see Leo loving his trains again so much. He calls us upstairs periodically to admire everything and discuss plans. He looks so beautiful when he stands there talking about it all, his big brown eyes just full of light.
My boys have such good hearts. Who knows what life will bring them, or what they will bring to life, but I know they will always have good, true hearts.
My sweetpeas.
