Addendum to Mothering a Walking Ball of Emotions and a Mess of Complications
Of late (until we get it together to get Owen's bike fixed) all four of us head off in the morning together. The boys are generally walking home from school but morning is hectic enough. Ernie is driving again and we only have one car; I'm due at work at 8:00, Owen at one school at 8:00, and Leo at another school at 8:05. So we attempt to get out of the house a bit after 7:30. You can imagine how successful we are. Ha! The boys HATE it when I remind them that it's almost time to go. However, conversely, if they run late they say that I didn't TELL them to get ready in time. I've tried pointing out the fucked-uppedness of this to no avail.
We finally get out of the house yesterday morning and we're waiting at a corner to turn onto Prospect and Ernie starts singing Daft Punk "We're off to school to get lucky, we're off to school to get lucky." I joined the boys in booing him and telling him that was awful. He just chortled as he whizzed on to Prospect. Owen said, "Dad, you can say you can get lucky about a lottery ticket or getting the wrapper of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup absolutely perfectly, but not going to school." Ernie then said that it's not hard to get a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup out of the liner and then Leo joined in and they were both yelling at us full throttle at how it's impossible to get the wrapper off without any of the chocolate coming off with it.
It was utterly ridiculous and there were yellow leaves everywhere from last night's rain and I dissolved into happy giggles.
This is why I don't kill them.
I adore those boys. Utterly adore them.
