Tired and Pizza and Ian

Last night I was so tired I could barely see straight. Actually that's not true, I could see straight, I couldn't hear straight. When I'm tired one of the first things that happens is that noise makes me crazy. I don't know why I was so tired. Maybe because I went into that busy weekend still feeling a little tired from the cold I was getting over. Maybe because I slept like shit the night before. Early that night Ernie started doing a little snore. I nudged him and muttered, "turn on your side!" The poor man was sound asleep so he said, "O.k." and didn't move. I sighed and nudged him again. "Turn on your side!" He said, "ok....which side?" I said, "It doesn't matter, just turn on your  side." He didn't move. I nudged and muttered again. He said, "The other side?" I said, "Just turn on your SIDE!" He turned on his side and all was quiet.

I started to drift off and then I could hear Leo cackling with laughter while on his computer on the other side of the wall. I thought about getting up and telling him to be quiet and go to bed but I knew he would soon and I didn't want to move. I drifted off again and then suddenly I could hear Rascal crying outside Owen's door. Owen's still mad at him so he wouldn't let him in. Sigh. A little while later Rascal came bounding in, waking me up once more as I started to drift off. More sighs. I finally went to sleep until Hattie decided to come and curl up on the other side of me. I was now wedged between two cats who would growl at each other occasionally. Whenever Hattie felt the need to scratch she would get up on the bedside table to do so which then allowed everything on the table to rattle accordingly. I'd fall back asleep only to be awoken when she came back to the bed and stuck her wet nose in my face so that I'd lift the sheet up and let her lie next to me. Then Ernie started turning on his OTHER side in his sleep and hurting his shoulder, which is still painful. Of course this was accompanied by gasps and yelps and turning over again.

I guess I DO know why I was so freaking tired.

The boys had something to go to at 8:00 last night and normally I would have gone, but I think I looked pathetic enough that Ernie offered to take them without me. I gratefully accepted and during the little over an hour they were gone (and I was by MYSELF) I did nothing but look at old Hobbies Magazines (another story) and check to see if there were any videos of Ian Hunter on youtube from the Chicago show (shamefully there are not...and he looked so GOOD that night in his jacket and white shirt....nothing like a black jacket and white shirt on a good looking man).

The boys had eaten earlier but Ernie and I hadn't (see extreme tiredness above) so in addition to Hobbies and Ian I also rolled out the pizza dough for us. I blanched some of our last kale from the front yard, sprinkled a little chopped rosemary on the dough, and then put on the roughly chopped kale. I realized I'd forgotten the tomato sauce (see extreme tiredness again). There wasn't much left so I just dabbed it across everything, then some cheese and then pepperoni because it was that kind of day. I cooked it at about 530 degrees for 15 minutes and man...it was some of the best pizza we've had in a long time. I think perhaps because I rolled the dough out quite thin, didn't use much sauce, and cooked it at such a high heat. It turned out really good and tasted light (despite the pepperoni and cheese). Of course originally I had planned our pizza to be goat cheese with leftover sweet potato and some kale but after seeing and smelling Owen's classic tomato, cheese and sausage pizza I had to go a bit more traditional.

In a bit of synchronicity, Van and Karin had pizza with our kale (our hostess gift) last night too. Since I was too tired to take a picture of mine despite it being so damn pretty....I will share Van and Karin's....and that's all I've got for this rambling little post...

Here's one the songs that sounded so good the other night....on Jools Holland a few years back....
