Cynthia and the Anti-Appliance Zone

Yes, I hate the cold, but I do love it when the snow squeaks under my feet. And I will try to use that life-is-good-silver-lining approach as I contemplate the fact that I still have no working stove. We are waiting for "a call back from Raven" at Dick Van Dyke Appliance World to see what happens next. This despite Ernie calling numerous times, going to the store, etc. yesterday. Word from our salesman is that we are supposed to get a call this morning. We went with them because we figured we'd get better service than from a big box store.

Ahem.

The appliance world and I don't seem to get along.

I am busy reminding myself however, that it's a stove. It's a thing. It's below zero outside and yet I have a warm (well, relatively...it's a damn drafty old) house, healthy and happy (well, pretty much anyway) children, and a jewel of a husband. What would be so damn bad about adding a round of functioning appliances to that picture I do not know, but I do know in the scheme of things I am damn lucky.

Still.

I'd like a fucking oven.

What is it with me and appliances?

I remember, years and years ago, when Ernie and I bought a washer and dryer for the little ranch house we rented over in Centennial Park when we first moved back to town in the early 90's. I think we got them from Best Buy....we got the cheapest of the cheap but we were so excited at the idea of not having to go to a laundromat. They delivered it and I can't remember exactly what happened but when they tried to install the dryer it immediately blew. They told us it was our electrical system and that it was our problem and left it there. I did what I do so well in these situations. I cried. Then I called Ernie and cried some more. He called his father who then called me. He talked to me and asked me some questions and when he heard my voice waver he said, "You're not crying, are you?"  I sniffed "ye-esss," and he laughed kindly at me. He and my MIL came over and he figured out that it was a problem with the drier. We got around the problem by just saying send me the next model up and take this one back...they did and we were washer and drier happy.

I'd totally forgotten that. Do you think it IS me?
