Frogs and Sausage

Ahhhhh.....it's the weekend. I am so happy. Busy, busy, busy week and even with a day off after the crazy weekend I am READY for a real weekend. I am praying for snow too. Boo to all of you praying for no snow!

Last night my beloved Sue lured me out to Bayern Stube for the Hunter's Feast. I went with the 'gourmet sausage sampler' of a wild boar sausage with cranberries and burgundy wine, a pheasant and turkey sausage with cognac, a rabbit and veal sausage with white wine and hers and a venison sausage with blueberries and elderberry wine, accompanied by potatoe croquettes, a pear filled with lingonberries and red cabbage. I think my favorite was the pheasant and turkey, but it might have been the venison....my memory has blurred a bit. Need I tell you that I was very full even though I left some? Ernie went with hasenpfeffer----roast rabbit legs with white wine sauce. That boy loves his rabbit. I chose a dainty glass or two of German wine while everybody else went with hulking mugs of beer. The company was delightful and it felt good driving out to Gibson City through the snow covered fields, numerous deer just glimpsed in the dusk. And on the way home I swear Ernie and I saw a shooting star.

I also learned that evidently you can shoot frogs with shotguns. For some reason this brought the table to hilarity. Ernie will never be the same.

I love my friends.

For the rest of the weekend I will peruse pork loin recipes because I've got a big old pork loin in the freezer and the Eric Brace, Peter Cooper and Thomm Jutz house concert coming up. I think the potluck theme is It's-February-and-we're-broke-let's-see-what's-in-the-pantry-and-the-freezer. Catchy, no?
