The Return of Batty and Timetables
I'm trying to blearily shake off the long weekend and get ready to get back to work. It may be easier said than done. It was a pretty perfect weekend....did a lot of nothing and yard work on Friday. Saturday, more nothing and than had my BIL over for dinner outside in the yard on Saturday night. It was delightful, slighly overcooked smoked pork chops, traditional potato salad, baked beans and lots of watermelon. Oh, and cherry cobbler (pitted the cherries myself I proudly note) for dessert. It felt so good to just be outside.
Sunday morning I woke up tired as the neighbors had been so loud the night before. I lost count after the sixth time they woke me up. It ranged from dogs barking to cars pulling up with a person going in and then immediately leaving, or a varient---a car pulls up, a person goes in and then the lights go off for awhile before they leave, or...my favorite, the person has a loud argument in his front yard ON HIS PHONE. So I found myself tired on Sunday. I made an appetizer for Sasha and Dick's Summer Kick Off Appetizer party but it was a failure. We didn't feel too bad once we got there and saw the incredible spread of food! Best margarita ever I might note.... It was an utterly delightful evening, my only regret is I didn't talk to people I didn't know, because given how much I liked the people there that I DID know, I would probably have loved the others as well. Thanks Sasha and Dick...it was a perfect evening!
We got home and it was just getting dark. Owen came and sat with us in the front yard and for the first time in a long time we saw the bats! Owen ran in and got Leo and we all sat outside watching the bats (Was it Batty himself, or a descendent?) swooping through the neighborhood. Lovely. Nothing better than hanging out with my guys like that.
Monday I just didn't feel like going to the cemetery. I curled up and read and Leo computered while Ernie and Owen went to an antique shop or two. Owen came back empty handed but with some Union Pacific timetables for Leo. Leo was thrilled. A good weekend.
My sweet peas.
