Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1. Leo and Ernie are going up to Chicago on Thursday on the train. Just there and back that night. There is a special historic train that is coming into Union Station so they are going up to see it. Any recommendations for what else they should do in the city? I'm recommending lunch at Miller's Pub and a trip around the loop on the el. Perhaps the Chicago History Museum...they have some kind of railroad photo exhibit. Any other Leo-centric ideas?

2. The yard starts to feel like home again.

3. The physical therapy seems to be helping my knee. YAYYYYYY! It still hurts but not with the sharpness that it had. I've got a few new aches as my body adjusts and I try to adapt, but I feel pretty positive about it all. Owen continues to be my coach. Last night the therapist tied my ankles together with a stretchy band before one exercise. I told him son was going to love tying me up. He's relatively impersonal but he did laugh pretty hard at that.

4. Our beloved Dick Darr brought us back a cooler full of Daisy hot dogs from his last trip to Chicago. They are wonderful and make me very happy. I've always loved hot dogs for better or worse. I remember when I was in high school and college the Jewel in Lisle carried Daisy hot dogs and my Dad would buy them for me. Thanks Dick!

5. On a drive out to Country Arbors Nursery the other day....

6. Owen's home from school with an illness vaguely related to I-don't-want-to-spend-hours-on-a-school-bus-to-go-to-a-zoo-for-a-class-trip-when-I-don't-even-like-zoos. Leo's got late start so it's a quiet morning. I'm trying to organize my mind and gear up for getting a shit load of work done today. I'm hoping to take Friday off for a four day holiday but that means working my ass off to get there. At least I have great job perks....like a hand delivered try of matcha tea and a Japanese sweet.

6. We came home late last night after going out for a drink and having a delightful time with friends. Owen greeted us having just completed mowing the lawn. He said, "I don't think I'm becoming one of those guys, but I did take scissors to a couple of spots."

7. The inimitable Mighty King of Love, Phil Lee, to join us in a little over a week WITH a brand new album. What a wonderful thing to look forward to! Here's a new one from him..... That's my boy.
