The Voldemort of Holidays
Yes.
That-Which-Must-Not-Be-Celebrated.
It's over. Never again. For all of you that had a great time on That-Which-Must-Not-Be-Celebrated, I am delighted for you. For the rest of us, take a deep breath, you've got a year. I mean That-Which-Must-Not-Be-Celebrated is just set up for failure. Let's face it, mothers tend to be the ones that plan things, that make things happen for the family. As non-traditional as my family is in some ways, I am the one that THINKS about dinner, THINKS about what we'll do on vacation, THINKS about gifts. And then we expect the rest of the family to all of a sudden do that and when they don't really come through with flying colors, as much as we know they love us (and I will freely admit that I got two incredible home made cards from the guys and lovely tulips from my husband), well, our feelings get hurt. It's just set up for everyone to feel rotten. And it's really not about a meal or a present or anything like that...it's about the THINKING and the rest of the family just isn't used to doing that in the way that mothers do.
Anyway. I say NEVER AGAIN.
I really missed my mother yesterday. I wanted to call her and talk to her about Mother's Day and birthdays and what it's like to be a mother as kids get older. I wanted to ask her what she worried about with me and ask her if I turned out o.k.
I just missed her a lot.
I have a sneaking suspicion that she would have been on board with my new policy regarding That-Which-Must-Not-Be-Celebrated.
Oh, and yeah, I fell on the stairs trying to carry too many things including a squirming Rascal and so I hurt like hell.
Onward.
