Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1. The other day Owen couldn't think of the word for pants so he called them leg-sleeves. I think it's brilliant and it also lessens my worries that I have Alzheimer's if my 13 year old can't think of the word for pants...

2. I hate Van DeLisle. Why? Because of this...and the fact that neither Ernie or I are there with Karin and him...

3. Getting over my cold pretty well but the boys both have it bad. I can tell Owen's not even faking.

4. Time is moving too fast. That's not all bad though, as it means that MelFest, our house concert with Malcolm Holcome AND Bill Jackson and Pete Fidler is coming up on Saturday, September 26th. Personally I think all our house concerts are pretty great but I am REALLY REALLY REALLY excited about this one.

First up we get the incredible treat of Bill Jackson with Pete Fidler.

And then, after that dose of great songs and splendid musicianship...you get Malcolm Holcombe, who frankly, is just like no other. It's hard to have words for Malcolm.

We'll drink a toast to Mel, whether you knew her or not, her spirit is worth celebrating, then we'll eat good food, chat, and then get blown away by the music. Yes. Please join us. If you've never come...don't be scared....you won't be the only new face...it's always a mix of different folks...

5. I'm continuing my streak of poorly cooked meals. I'm hoping I can break out tonight and actually make a decent dinner. Perhaps something spicy to clear everybody's noses.... I'm thinking of a particularly spicy batch of my sesame noodles, along with some sauteed shrimp and a salad.

6. And on a final note, I am thrilled that so many have stepped up to help Richard Hill cover the time he has missed work, as well as get some good dinners to him. I know you are doing  it for Richard, but I give you my heartfelt thanks as well! So many people have done kind things for us at various times. As I explained to the boys, you can't always reciprocate directly, so you just have to pass it on...and when it's helping someone you love, it's very easy....
