Fortune

Between being sick and the holidays I don't think I've worked a full week in eons, and yet I'm still thrilled to have a three day weekend. Woo-hoooo! Yesterday Ernie and I celebrated the, ummm, 35th anniversary of the day we met if you can believe. I'm not sure I can. Don't forget....I was a sweet young thing. It was my freshman year in college and I'd come back for the weekend before classes started. That Saturday my friend and I hit Record Service. I remember standing in the import section and seeing Ernie behind the counter. He looked so cute. That night he gave me the nod at Mabel's. Poison Squirrel, a band from Chicago, was playing. Afterward we headed out to a party. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Yesterday I had a work event at midday. It was the 100th birthday of a supporter of where I work, so we had a party for him. We had great sushi from Sushi Kame, sake, and members of the Marching Illini marched in and played. Pretty delightful I must say! Afterward Ernie and I stopped into Fries and Peanuts and ran into our beloved Beth and Matt and chatted and chatted. We finally tumbled home and started dinner. We'd splurged and ordered some fresh lobster meat for a pasta dish. Honestly, it was a bit of a disappointment, it just didn't have the sweetness that I think of lobster as having. Despite that, it was still fun to make. I did a sauce made of mascarpone, garlic, shallots, green peas and lobster, using some of my lobster base and pasta water to thin it out, with turmeric and coriander for seasoning. Oh, and a little fresh basil on top.  I'll make the sauce again, perhaps with shrimp......and I guess I'll save my lobster adventures for when I'm in Maine.... We watched the first half of the Democratic debate but then gave up and watched something else. It was a lovely anniversary. Nothing we could have imagined 35 years ago we laughingly agreed. We are very fortunate.

Happy Anniversary baby.
