Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1. I had a whole post written, complete with Lady Gaga and Carol Burnett references, and directions for a Cynthia drinking game devised by Heather and Sue (basically you drink every time you hear me say 'the real deal' 'beloved' or 'I love you.' It is lost to the ghosts of the imac however so here I am. All I have for you instead is that my poor sweet pea Ernie has a swollen sore face due to a peridontal procedure yesterday. The stupid fucking cancer treatment has caused part of his jaw bone to die and so it's breaking off and causing infection. Fucking cancer. Me? I'm just grumpy for no good reason.

2. I love, love, love the Long Ryders' box set...it's great. When I read a recent Sid Griffin interview however, and he said that Americana couldn't have happened with out them and, "We were literally the first band to mix rock and roll, punk and country and western" I had to pause and say to myself....wellllll, what about Jason and the Nashville Scorchers? Reckless Country Soul came out in 82, did it not? And 10 5 60 in 83? Not that it matters...it's not a competition. I can definitely can see the path from a LOT of bands I listened to at that time to what I listen to today. I am just an inherently grey person, so black and white statements sometimes make me go "hmmmmm." Regardless, it is a tremendous set. I will always consider the Long Ryders' show at Harpo's in Detroit to be one of the best shows I've ever seen. I wish I could be there right now, complete with the overzealous security and the milk cartons of wine. Sigh.

3. Last night's dinner was aborted since Ernie had to have soft food so as not to tear his sutures. I made soft food for the guys and then treated myself to on of my everything bagels that my beloved (DRINK!) Heather made for me, topped with a mashed avocado, a little salt, and some cheese, all broiled up. It was utterly delightful. Tonight I'm making more soft food. His poor little face is still swollen as hell. Having a friend like Heather who makes me everything bagels in Judi's memory...and then they're fantastic too....well drink UP because she IS beloved. I am very, very blessed with friends.
