Behind Us
A lovely weekend. It started with drinks with Ann and Bob, whom I hadn't seen in way too long, and Sue, and hearing about Ann and Bob's summer travels. Saturday we were semi-productive and cleaned the refrigerator and our pantry out, moved some things around in the kitchen which was sort of embarrassingly satisfying. Then a long drive in the country. The fields smelled intoxicatingly good.
We got home, hung out with the guys a bit, and fixed dinner. A quiet day that left me feeling good. Sunday I slept late, read the paper, looked at the news online, shook my head and realized why it's so tempting to click on things like "Four uses for your colander you never thought of" because anything is better than the news. Shook that off and read a bit. Later, Ernie and I headed to a visitation for the husband our old friend Peggy Ball. We took the back road to St. Joseph and smelled the fields and grass again. We got there and stood and stood and stood in line. The turn out was incredible...what a tribute to a loved couple. My heart breaks for Peggy. Peggy has a wonderful laugh....my favorite picture out of the many on display was the one of her laughing with her husband....
As sad as it was to be there, we saw other old friends we love and so the weekend began and ended with beloved friends. As hard as it is to get up on Monday morning, it helps when you have a good weekend behind you....
