Sweet Woodruff and Bob

Damn it was a busy week. I missed a ton of good music this weekend but I can't really regret it because I needed to collapse a bit. It's been a stressful week or two at work and Friday night I really wanted to see our beloved Bottle Rockets and Marshall Crenshaw. I'd thought to remind him of the time we took him to see an Elvis impersonator a million years ago---out in the country somewhere. It was not to be. I went to bed at 9 pm and slept for 12 hours. Yeah, I guess I needed that.

Yesterday I got caught up with emails and some House Concert kind of stuff and then headed off to a work event. It was delightful....fantastic sake and good company...thanks to all the friends that came. It was deeply appreciated. I was thinking of going to see JD Wilkes but as soon as we got in the car we looked at each other and just silently headed home. It was early but I felt like it was midnight. We curled up, watched some so-so tv and eventually we headed into the kitchen and made potato/beet/turnip/carrot hash with over easy eggs on top. It was perfect. I got into bed and felt so relieved that the week was finally over and I could relax.

Today I looked at the news for awhile (shudder) and now Ernie is doing dishes and I just finished up making a batch of lamb stew (leftover leg of lamb).

Now I need to get myself in the right frame of mind for the upcoming week. Work. Election. Plan for House Concert. Cook. MUSIC. BOB WOODRUFF.

I think I've written before about Bob Woodruff. He had an album out in the mmmm early 90's in Nashville. We met him once at Robert's Western Wear when we were hanging out with the Mavericks one night (so long ago). Nothing he would remember but for whatever reason we always called the sweet woodruff in our yard 'sweet bob woodruff.' I know, I know, but these things amuse us. This, of course, is why Ernie and I are stuck with one another. Because 20 years later we can still look at a plant and say, "look, it's sweet Bob Woodruff" and amuse each other.

Anyway, this year when I was pulling leaves off plants in the front yard I saw the sweet woodruff coming up and wondered what had ever happened to Bob. My beloved Google gave me the news...he had a new album out. I promptly ordered it and as soon as we got it I, well actually, WE, fell totally in love with it. infuckingcredible album. I kid you not. I think it is just golden.

I wrote him a gushing little note on Facebook one night when I had my nerve up and he kindly replied. We talked about him possibly doing a show here sometime, and when this opportunity came up I thought, "wellll, it's a little too close to my other shows, but what the hell." Then I realized I had screwed up and it was REALLY close to another show. I just couldn't change it though. I've turned down other shows for the same reason but I just couldn't do it. I don't know what kind of crowd we'll have for him but I know those that come will be so happy. Since it's so close to our other shows, we are calling this a 'pay what you want.' Usually we ask $15-$20 (and all goes to artist) but I know that can be a lot, so come, give what you can, and more importantly, give him a listen. If you've ever hesitated to come, now is the time. My friends don't let me say the real deal anymore so I will have to come up with something equally appropriate. Please send suggestions.

SO.
