Mousewatch

Rascal and the other cats have been on mousewatch in our kitchen. We've seen the mouse dart through the kitchen a couple of times...and once he popped out of the toaster. Rascal, in particular, sits tensely hunched in front of the stove and the refrigerator for hours on end to no avail. There are periodic skuffles when the cats get overexcited or cross into one another's territory but we try to ignore it all.

Last night I got home late from work. The boys trotted downstairs to say hello (well, we had their dinner). I walked through the living room to put my coat away and when I walked back in I stopped in my tracks and looked at the floor. Leo, sitting a foot or so away, said reassuringly, "That's the toy mouse." And indeed we have often been fooled by the toy mouse, but I looked a little more carefully and said, "Uh..." I mean, it DID look just like the toy mouse, except...it wasn't. Hattie walked right past it, ignoring it completely. Ernie came in and found us all staring at it. He asked us incredulously if we had all walked right by it and we just shrugged our shoulders. ALL four cats completely ignored it....THEY'RE the ones you should be asking about it. Now, I assume one of them had taken care of it, but wouldn't you think they might just SNIFF it as they walked by?

I put my money on Rascal, although when we went into the media room Annie seemed to be in a VERY good mood, even rolling on her back. Hmmmm.

Thanks to Owen for disposing of it.

Poor mouse. I guess now we'll wait for another one to take its place.
