I Think This Is My Favorite Lego Set Ever
Leo's newest Lego set. The Lego NASA Apollo Saturn V.
It got delivered when I was in Chicago, but he waited to build it until I was home. I sat in the living room and listened to the Lego clinking happening in the dining room. Every so often he would bring something in to show me and we would both chortle. Lego is so fucking smart. The design of even the instruction booklet was gorgeous, with historic photos and information about the Apollo mission. Leo's got such a good eye for design. He has a graphic design class next year and I'm crossing my fingers that he gets a teacher that gets him. We talked about the design of the whole set and its packaging and how it was such a big part of it.
You KNOW he was happy when it was done, because he even let me take a picture of him. Well, I told him he didn't have a choice but he acquiesced pretty easily.
I asked him which one was Neil Armstrong as I wanted a picture for my friend Eric Brace and he rolled his eyes a bit, and said, "Uh Mom, they don't really differentiate."
We sat and admired it when he was done. "No wonder you still love Lego," I said. He smiled. This is one of the Lego Ideas sets, in which Lego fans come up with the idea and get enough support for Lego to make it official. It makes it even cooler.
Now, of course, the question is where to display it.
My sweet pea. I love being with him. A Leo with a new advanced Lego kit is a wondrous thing. I was happy.
