Another Ghost Sign. Downtown Can Still Surprise Me!
I was in a grumpy mood the other day after my doctor's appointment but then I found a new-to-me ghost sign in downtown, and it turned my mood right around. Ernie and I were driving south on Market Street, past Collegiate Cap & Gown, or whatever it's called now, but there was a fire truck and a police car blocking the street. We headed over to Walnut and went south on it, something we never do because a block or so later it becomes one way going north...and lo and behold. L.T. Brownfield and Miller High Life just looking beautiful on the north side of the building.
I was so tickled.
I tried to look up L.T. Brownfield but some newspaper listings online were behind pay walls. I found this reference from the Champaign County Historical Archives though...and sure enough, it mentions 503 N. Walnut.
