Finding Light On Sunday

We've had lots of great things happen in the last month or two, but it's also been a bit stressful. This weekend I have completely indulged myself. Friday afternoon we had lunch and got to see our beloved Amy at Bunny's and then met MARK GERKING and Lisa Kesler and Peggy and Richard all for drinks at Fries and Peanuts. It was such a treat to see everybody, but particularly Mark, whom we love so much and don't see often enough. We got home and found Owen and friends ransacking the garage for things to make the basement more cozy. Um, our basement isn't finished and sometimes floods...I'm not sure how successful they will be but I thought it was admirable.

Saturday I woke up earlier than I meant to and the day was so heavy and gray. I came downstairs, ate breakfast, read some news, then crawled onto the couch which Owen had kind of turned into a big red nest and laid there all freaking day reading. I read the memoir by Laurie Lindeen who was the singer for Zuzu's Petals and married to Paul Westerberg. Loved it! Eventually Owen came home from band practice and we headed over to Fries and Peanuts and met Ann and Bob and Sophie for dinner before the Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt show. Great, great show of course, and Lyle Lovett goes further up in my estimation by calling out Millie Gerard! I didn't take any pictures inside because there was a wonderful dearth of phones being held up and I hated to break that spell. Oh, and I still hate this fake marquee.

Today I lazed around a bit and then asked Owen to take me lamp shopping to Target. Our living room has virtually no lighting in it and it drives me crazy. So we sipped out in Cyril and brought three lamps...and I HAVE LIGHT! Which is a good thing because it's pouring and dark with rumbling thunder. Leo's upstairs computering, I'm sitting here computering, and Owen just dragged Ernie out for a drive because he said he wanted to drive Cyril in the rain. I've got a pork shoulder slow roasting in the oven as a test run for the Bill Chambers house concert and, despite the fact that there are worries and dreads floating further back in my head, all is pretty much right with our little world.

Oh, and the other night I discovered quinoa patties....which would make a great burger. I had leftover tri-colored cooked quinoa...I cooked some spinach, chopped it roughly and mixed it in with some beaten egg and hot sauce and then sauteed it until a bit crisp. Ernie's not always the biggest fan of my fritter concoctions but he loved it! I feel victorious and want to experiment more!
