Of stents and sons

Man, that guy above has no idea how much he did for us today.
Ernie had to have the stent in his kidney replaced and since that's keeping the kidney healthy despite the bladder cancer tumor, it's important. It's a pretty routine procedure but just the same, it's surgery, general anesthesia, etc. Honestly, we're just so damned tired of hospitals and waiting rooms.
Surgery was scheduled for 8:15 so we had to be there by 6:30. Ernie dropped me off and then went to park because we were there before the valet parking. I thought there'd been a big to-do about visitors now having to sign in and get registered, get photo taken, etc. Didn't happen, they just waved us in. Who knows.
Leo's on his way to the UP with a friend to do some train photography. It's Owen's day off and he's been working really hard and been busy so I kinda figured he'd forget and sleep late (no offense, Owen). I figured I'd be alone for the duration. We got settled in the waiting room and Ernie went off for prep. I texted Owen a picture of the new waiting room furniture (so exciting, they have swivel chairs and tables you can work at). He responded not long after and asked if he could come by. YES, baby, YES! By the time they whisked Ernie off he was there.
I think I talked his ear off. At one point he did point out these were pretty heavy topics (we covered a lot) for 9:00 am. God, I just love him so. We talked to the surgeon, everything went fine. When Ernie got into the second recovery stage one of us was allowed to go back. I sent Owen back and I think that was a nice treat for Ernie, and besides, I was happy in my swivel chair.
Eventually Owen came back out and said it was time to get the car. I am so grateful that he was there to do that. I know I would have done it just fine but damn, the back is bad today. He walked me down to the lobby and then went and got the car. By the time he was back Ernie was there. The two of them gave each other the biggest, longest hug. I will keep that image in my memory. Then we trundled home while he headed back to the parking garage to get the bug and go back home.
He has no idea how much lighter we felt having him there. I worry about depending on the boys too much. I don't want them to have the weight of aging parents too soon. Owen just rolled his eyes at me and told me he loved me. Leo checked in via text and sent his love too.
We are so blessed with our little weasels.*
Onward.
