Attacked

Man. Today sucks.

I know that sounds like a whiny teenager but I FEEL like a whiny teenager.

When the boys were little they would sometimes call themselves stupid. And I would always tell them, "You're not stupid. You may have done something wrong or not known how to do something but that doesn't make you stupid."

Well. I'm stupid. No ifs, ands or buts. I'm stupid.

All the zinnia and sunflower seedlings are gone.

Gone. Eaten. Devoured. Gone, baby, gone.

Buster II and the Busterettes are ok, but everybody else is gone.

We kept saying we should probably protect the seedlings somehow but, well, we didn't. We were so far behind already that they had just come up. Honestly, in all the years I have grown seeds here I've never had a problem with my seedlings getting eaten, and there were plenty of rabbits and groundhogs all over the place then too.

Sigh.

I could just cry. Which is also stupid.

Today already wasn't starting out great.

I'm trying to be realistic about what we can and can't do, what I can and can't do in terms of mobility as well and I don't know, I was excited about my little seedlings.

We have some seeds we just planted in another spot I guess we'll need to figure out how to protect them. And if we do adequately protect the little guys, I guess we could transplant some. Any suggestions on best way to protect multiple small areas with seedlings?

I guess Ernie's going to go to Prairie Gardens and see if there are any sunflower seeds left. Sigh. They were already out of zinnia seeds. I guess he can look at the plants...they sometimes have zinnias. Just not the same though. I'd specially ordered the little candy cane zinnias.

Damn it.

I remain, your sad friend Cynthia.
