Onward to Byron's
We head off to Iowa tomorrow, leaving Leo in charge. Hattie is EXTREMELY good at making her feelings clear if her water bowl is low so I have no worries.
Anyway, we are heading to Pomeroy, Iowa and the legendary Byron's. The Kevin Gordon Trio will be playing and it will be a tribute to our beloved Mark Gerking. Byron asked everyone to do a poster for it so here is my vert clumsy offering. I love you, Mark and I can't wait to be with others that loved you too.
I have no other news to report except that we are damn lucky we didn't lose power as so many friends did (and STILL don't have) during Thursday's storm. Our power flicked off just long enough to have to reset things. Poor Owen and Trinity are supposed to get their power back on by this evening. Other friends don't expect it back until tomorrow. It's the strangest thing to look our bedroom window at night and see utter darkness. No street lights, no window shaped glowing light. Hmmmm. When did street lights come into common use?

If you haven't watched this (and of course, if you are also vaguely interested in trains), you MUST. A freight train stalled. The Big Boy was waiting for it to pass so what do you do when you are one of the powerful steam engines in the world? Why you offer your assistance and just push that freight train out of the way. It's a treat to see the Big Boy REALLY working. Honestly, this video is great.
Maybe it's just me but I grinned through the whole thing. Ernie said that I was smiling like Wynona did during Jelly Roll's performance at the CMT awards. If you want to see, once I again I give you...Jelly Roll. (side note: reportedly he has cut his hair)
Ok, I'm off to check lists and start pulling things together for our trip.
