The Squeaks and Scratches
I woke up this morning with a cold, it was grey and dismal outside.....and a Monday to boot. Geesh. However as I blearily clicked through my regular roster of sites looking for a bright spot I found that Lucas had updated Casualken.com.
ahhhhhhh..... Good man Lucas!
Click on over and see his kind write up of our anniversary party and a couple of his patented POV shots of it all. And if you were there....leave him a note telling him how wonderful they were.... Man, I just couldn't love those Kane Welch Kaplin guys any more if my life depended on it....
Judi is sounding pretty good (and I must say she really looks beautiful bald). It's most likely that she's bouncing back from chemo but I happily take all accolades and compliments that I am taking good care of her!! Her Tarceva is on order from our pharmacy and she'll start it in the next day or so.
She's also trying to get things organized for the end. Her friend Nancy will be taking the lead on the appropriate Buddhist death and dying practices. My beloved friend Bob spoke to some funeral homes to give us a heads up on what ones would be sensitive to dealing with Buddhist requirements. My boss also kindly agreed to our request that we hold a memorial service when the time comes at Japan House. Japan House is truly beautiful and Judi feels that it is sacred space and thus a perfect spot.
As always I'm overwhelmed by people's kindness. My dear blogging friend Cathy posted some kind words about me that brought me to tears. And a dear friend here in Champaign, Kathy, showed up at our house on Sunday with homemade gumbo, the most heavenly apple cake I have ever inhaled in my life and a loaf of homemade bread. Today she ups the ante with an offer to help coordinate Judi's insurance paperwork.
Wow.
Enough squeaks and scratches for now. As I write this I'm listening to Kevin Welch and Kieran Kane's 11 12 13 album from Melbourne back in 2000 or so. After one song, Kevin says, "Kieran Kane on the squeaks and scratches" and it seemed like a fitting term for the, uh....well, for the squeaks and scratches in my life.
Onward.
