Random Notes From the Sandwich Life
1. Hard week all. Hard week. Lots of driving and it was difficult to be at Judi's house and taking her things without her. Hard.
2. Good moments too however---as always the inimitable Gina is AMAZING and Judi's colleagues and students helped---making packing the truck a breeze.
3. Atlanta traffic....in rush hour....in huge thunderstorm and downpours.... Geesh.
4. Did a mini-tour of Clemson to say good bye. Last drinks at Nick's:
Last drink on Judi's deck looking at her yard:
Last ribs at Sardi's:
5. And as always....the pleasures of the south. A terrible breakfast on our way getting lost to try to pick up the rental truck but I loved the menu:
and my souvenir from a gas station in Georgia....deep fried peanuts. Gotta love the peanutcentric atmosphere of Georgia....crockpots of boiled peanuts (in different flavors) simmering at the gas station quick stops....
6. As hard as it was taking Judi's things from her house---it was almost equally hard moving them into our house. Very hard for Judi too. Not that I'm not thrilled to have things---some beautiful things that will be a way to remember her----but as Judi said, each step we take like this strips away any facades that are left....
7. Judi says that in her next life she wants to be hit by a bus when she goes.... We laughed....
8. On a bright note-----my sister Debbie is feeling QUITE smug. As you might know if you read this blog much....getting Owen off to 1st grade in the morning is what as known as a 'NIGHTMARE.' Debbie called us the first day however and announced that both boys had been ready to go at 7:15 (ten minutes early) with no fuss at all. She said when they left Leo said with great satisfaction, "now THIS is when I like to leave." Ernie's comment? "I'll kill them."
9. My boys were angels for Debbie and I must say I'm very proud of them. I've also invited Debbie to live with us. All hail Aunt Debbie.....
10. more later....but tomorrow is Owen's holiday program (evidently during rehearsal today he said the wrong line and the other kids laughed....it was NOT a good evening at our house) and then Judi's appointment with Dr. Graham. We'll see how the Tarceva is doing. Think good thoughts....
