A Year of the Sandwich Life in Review....
I'm not one to normally recap----in writing or thinking----the year come January. I don't do resolutions, I don't particularly do New Year's Eve but after reading a few blogs looking back at their year it encouraged me to do the same.
Wow.
What a year it was. I think it did me good to go back and read some of it over. Makes me realize that I'm doing o.k.---that it was indeed a tough year and that we have gotten through it....
Here goes--some high points, some low points....
January
Judi starts radiation and chemo
I visit Judi in South Carolina
My father deteriorates further--both physically and mentally
Make Owen an Adam Schmitt shirt for his 6th birthday
February
Owen struggles with an unpleasant school environment
Judi struggles with radiation and chemo
My father gets worse
We get to see Kane Welch Kaplin
March
Did an o.k. antique show with the boys
Ernie’s cancer returns
April
Judi’s scans come back clean
Ernie does a lousy antique show
Dad says he feels like a bird in a cage and starts to wander
I go to SC to visit Judi, while I’m there my father ends up in the hospital and then a nursing home
The day I get back from South Carolina Ernie has a hernia attack and is scheduled for surgery
May
Kenny Draznik, Paul Budin and Pat Dailey play for us in our house---I love those guys
We reconnect with Berni and Wendy
My father dies while I am at the hospital for Ernie’s hernia surgery
More unhappiness with Owen’s school situation
Owen becomes Indiana Jones and we go see the new movie
June
We try to recover
Owen plays t-ball, Leo plays Lego and watches for bats
Judi is in remission and visits
July
Have a good time drinking too much at the Rosebowl listening to Dale Watson
We go to Maine and bring our friend Ricky
My mother grieves
August
We paint our dining room orange
My father’s headstone is put in place
The boys start school
September
We decide to try to add on to our house and have my mother live with us
The best neighbors in the world cut down part of the tree in our front yard
My old friend Diana Eyre vists and we get to see her for the first time in too many years.
Judi’s cancer returns. She is not expected to go into remission again.
My mother takes a trip to the emergency room
Kane Welch Kaplin plays at our 20th anniversary party (the last three things all in one week)
October
Leo builds the Millenium Falcon out of Lego
We clear out our ‘office’ and turn it into a bedroom for Judi. My mother just got bumped.
I go to South Carolina and drive Judi back home
November
The Metropolitan Building in downtown Champaign burns to the ground and breaks my heart.
Made possibly my best stuffing ever at Thanksgiving.
Judi loses the rest of her hair and Owen reassures her that our friend Rob is bald and nobody laughs at HIM....
December
Judi sells her house and Ernie and I drive to down to get some the things from her house. My sister Debbie is visiting and takes over the troops while we are gone.
2008 ends
Onward to 2009. At least we're starting out the year with good bagels....
