The Problem with Cell Phones...

Monday.  Morning.  Ugh.

I saw my second snake of the season yesterday.

I left a little early for the Jason Ringenberg/Justin Townes Earle show yesterday evening as the boys were irritating me and each other.  I gave them a little lecture and took off.  My big mistake?  I told them I'd have my cell phone with me.  I stopped at the gas station and the phone rang.  Owen was having a meltdown.  I talked to the babysitter, I talked to Owen, I talked to Leo, I talked to Owen again and then I talked to the babysitter again.  Of course I couldn't understand a damn thing Owen was saying as he was crying but I did ask him if he needed me to come home and he said no.  I said that was good because Mommy REALLY wanted to hear some music.  So I get to the Rosebowl.  Good Lord but I love the Rosebowl. I really have to start going there more often.  Found a wonderful spot at the bar and tried to relax.  I missed Ernie but he was supposed to arrive within an hour and a half or so.  Then the damn phone rings again.  Owen.  Crying.  Justin Townes Earle was doing a soundcheck so not only could I not understand Owen I also couldn't hear a frigging thing.  I got him calmed down a little and called Ernie and asked him to call Owen and talk to him because I couldn't hear a damn thing but I WASN'T LEAVING UNTIL I SAW JASON.  Ordered a glass of wine and tried to relax.  Jason Ringenberg started playing and then the fucking phone rang again.  Again I couldn't hear a damn thing so I just kept saying "I'LL BE HOME SOON" and "CALL YOUR FATHER ON HIS PHONE."  The bartender seemed pretty amused.  Me? not so much.  I ordered another glass of wine.  Once Jason was finished I called Ernie and said I should probably head home to see the carnage.  He said he was in Mahomet and to wait for him.  So he got there shortly after and of course he convinced me to stay---we hadn't had any recent phone calls and so I did.  And my, oh my am I glad I did.

Justin Townes Earle was absolutely wonderful.....as was Cory Younts who played with him.  Absolutely wonderful.  Got a chance to hug Jason and tell him I remembered him coming in with the Scorcher's first ep and putting it on consignment at Record Service....as Cory Younts said, 'back in the 1900's.'  Ernie hung out a little bit longer after the show and I scurried home to the kids.  I went in and Owen cheerfully said, "well, I had a bad time at first but then it was o.k."  Me too baby, me too....
