Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  The boys were home from school today.  Poor Ernie.  Are they sick?  Mmmmm....Leo definitely is--he's got a fever....Owen...I'm not so sure.  He'd been campaigning so long and hard to be sick this morning when I realized that poor Leo was sick and the thought of trying to send Owen to school when he was convinced he was sick and keep Leo at home when he didn't even seem to realize HE was sick....the whole thing was just too much so they are both at home....  That's called being a weak mother....

2.  Things you can NOT do when you don't have the use of your left thumb:  hook a bra or pull up tights...and do NOT, I repeat, do NOT try to pull your laptop out of where it's tucked into the side of your chair with your incapacitated left thumb and your fingers because you will split your damn thumb open again, realize you also sliced part of your fingernail and wonder if you should have gone to the doctor....and it will hurt like hell.  Then you will have to ask Owen for his Medic pack (a nintendo bag filled with bandages stolen from the bathroom) that he created for his army game and bandage it up yet again.

3.  Theoretically it will only cost $50-something to fix our broken oven.  Cross your fingers please.

4. I got a new toy this weekend-----my iPod touch---which I won after commenting on My Own Circle of Confusion when she had a contest.  It may have been a pity win but I'll still excitedly take it!  The boys have been incredibly wound up waiting for it to come in the mail.  Owen is convinced it's an iPhone so I have finally agreed, sure it's an iPhone...you just can't make phone calls on it.  Actually in retrospect it's the perfect iPhone for me....it's pretty....can do all sorts of things and yet I don't have to make PHONE calls....woo-hoooo!  I haven't won that many things----perhaps just because I don't enter contests----but either way it was a fun treat.  One of the only other things I can remember winning was a trip to Miami Beach courtesy MCA and the Maverick's first album.....that was great fun....and an awfully long time ago shockingly enough....

Here's Raul and the guys doing a version of Matchbox---back when Raul still wore a hat!  Ernie and Eileen and I were in Nashville that weekend----I think it the same weekend as the old Nashville antique show tailgate shows that were held in a couple of hotels near Opryland.  I remember getting together with Robert Reynolds and Paul Deakin at Robert's Western World and seeing a early version of BR549    .  They were---or are I suppose---lovely guys.  They gave us tickets for that show at the Ryman and then we ended up at Robert's again afterward with the two of them and Raul, etc.  Memories are made of this I suppose.

5.  Earlier Owen came up to me and said, "Mom, when it's my birthday maybe we could have Kieran Kane come play at my party."  God I love that boy.  I said, "well, uh, um, uh....he might be busy you know....we'd have to see."  He nodded seriously and said, "well I like him and you like him so I thought it was a good idea."  I assured him that it was an absolutely wonderful idea and then I hugged him and told him that I thought Kieran Kane would be really pleased to know that Owen wanted him at his birthday party.....

6.  Leo's fever etc. seems to have developed into a wretched cold poor boy....

7.  Owen has been working on a blues song....the lyrics are a bit different everytime he sings it but basically it's about not having the right girl.....

it's the little 'thank you' at the end that gets me....
