The Case of the Missing Glasses
Yesterday was just one of those days....started out fine but seemed to sort of splinter apart. I just couldn't get focused. Ernie and Owen went to get Owen's desk and I tried to be productive at home. Instead of getting one thing done though I did a little bit of many things....pretty much accomplishing nothing.
I went to work on the remain of Leo's old room which has stuff of his and then stuff of Judi's that we moved out of her room. I hadn't realized there was still so much of Judi's stuff in there and I got a bit overwhelmed....sorted stuff for awhile.....then sorted too small clothes in Owen's room.....then loaded the dishwasher....then sorted stacks of papers on our sideboard..... If I had just focused on ONE thing it might have seemed like I accomplished something. I hate days that make you feel useless.
Finally the boys convinced Ernie to put up our pool and sucker that I am I told him to do that instead of working on the bedrooms with me. Not long after I went outside to watch the phone rang and it was my mother. She couldn't find her glasses. She'd been looking for them for two hours. Sigh. So I drove over.
No glasses.
Without glasses she can not give herself insulin.
I gave up.
I came back home and a little while later we all got ready to go to Ann's house for pizza. So we stopped on the way and set Ernie on the hunt. Ernie is the official finder of everything in our house. I'm lousy at it....he is wonderful.
No glasses.
The thing that made me crazy was that she kept saying, "oh well, you can come over and give me my insulin in the morning." Well, yeah, I can tomorrow morning....but what about tomorrow evening and the next day? I told her I would drop everyone off at Ann and Bob's and then go to the drugstore and get some reading glasses for her. She was sure they wouldn't be strong enough. Odds are they'll be stronger than the glasses you have from the 80's Mom but whater.... But as she said, "that's o.k.....you can always come over and give me my insulin." ARGH.
So I dumped the family at Ann and Bob's and grumpily drove over and got the strongest glasses they had. Brought them back and she was delighted. I sighed deeply.
Wonderful evening with friends though.
Thank God.
oh, and by the way....our little 10 foot pool just isn't looking as big this summer....
