Random Notes from the Sandwich Life

1.  I finally made it into the DMV to transfer the registration and plates for Judi's Honda.  As we got ready to go inside, with the will, the death certificate, the title and the papers from the court all clutched in my hands, Ernie asked me if this was going to be difficult for me.  "oh no," I said airily.  We got a guy that was from South Carolina and chatted about the Clemson Tigers with me.  It went pretty smoothly....just lots of paperwork.  It was just when the woman handed me the Illinois plates that I started to get sad.  Ernie just held my hand as we walked back to the car and said, "I knew it."

2.  Owen is holding up pretty well to the heartbreak of having his bike stolen.  I guess this weekend we will go spend money on a bike for him and one for Leo (who has finally agreed to a new bike after a year of us begging to buy one for him.....have I mentioned that he doesn't like change?).  Of course I found out about all this JUST after I had clicked "buy" for some Mavis Staples/Booker T tickets at Krannert Center.  A splurge...but hell....it's Mavis Staples....

3.  An old canning jar with my oven dried cherry tomatoes in olive oil.....

4.  I made the boys both take showers last night....no arguing that they were clean because they'd been swimming.  This morning they smell so sweet and feel so good when I hug them.  Owen swears he feels softer all over, even his skin, because of the conditioner he put on his hair.  "Feel my face Mom."  God I love those boys.

5.  Meet the teacher night tonight.....and then tomorrow....back to the chaos of trying to get them out the door by 7:30.  Usually I'm ready for them to get back to school and a regular schedule....but not this year.  Of course Ernie probably is.....LOL.

6.  My mother seems to be doing pretty well....but I worry about her just the same.  Lately she constantly forgets when I'm coming over or what our plans are.  It's not that she is confused per se....but forgets a lot.  Eh....I don't know.  There's only so much worry to go around sometimes....

7.  Justin Townes Earle at the Rosebowl next week.....at least something to look forward to.....here he is doing the Replacements' Can't Hardly Wait.....
