The Sandwich Life a Go Go and Wreckless Eric.....
I have no idea what that title means and it certainly isn't appropriate to my life....I think we're more a Stop Stop....but I just liked it.
Thank God for three day weekends because if I had to go to work tomorrow I would be one pissy girl. I woke up yesterday morning feeling out of sorts......found that Owen was sick and realized our that our plans, at least for the first day of the weekend, were shot. Damn. No Farmers' Market (I know that Ernie or I could have gone on our own....but it's just not the same).....and no Jay Bennett Memorial show at the Cowboy Monkey for me. Damn, damn, damn. Although as the morning wore on I realized I had a touch of whatever Owen had.....a cold/fever kind of thing so it wasn't all bad. I curled up on the couch after Ernie left for the show and Owen laid with his head in my lap, handing used tissues up to me periodically. We watched bad TV and Leo even joined us for a couple of Bobby Flay Showdowns (I was so delighted when the woman with the big hair won the pulled pork). At one point Owen said, "I'm sorry you couldn't go out Mom" and handed me another used tissue. I kissed the top of his head about ten times and told him that staying home with him was the best thing in the world. He nodded contentedly and later in the night when he woke up feeling sick and I was trying to get him back to sleep, he said, "aren't you glad you got to stay home with me tonight?" and I reassured him I was.
Yesterday morning as I sat there feeling bleary----Ernie was reading the paper, the boys were squabbling and playing together and I was messing around cleaning up my computer-----I remembered that I'd been meaning to listen to Wreckless Eric's radio show so I pulled the list of episodes up and we listened to the first couple and DAMN but we were as happy as clams at high tide. Ahhhhhhh....THANK you Wreckless Eric! Loved hearing a lot of stuff I didn't know AND liked enough to start googling and looking for more information and of course his various rants and comments are delightful. I'm playing another episode right now.....and the more I listen to it the more I think that he and my husband would get on quite, quite well....
One of the songs I was particularly taken with was Frankfurt Kitchen by Rotifer. I was NOT familiar with the Frankfurt kitchen but Wreckless Eric explained it to me and I was rather tickled by the song AND the kitchen....
There's a lot of crap going on....my mother is doing...uh NOT well at all and I'm worried helplessly sick about it all but right now I'm going to sit here and watch Leo and Owen recreate the Lego City train all over our living room floorand listen to some more Wreckless Eric. On a side note I was rather proud that Amy Rigby described our house as one of the most dangerous venues she'd ever played even if it WAS because of all the lego all over the floor....
Happy Labor Day to all....
